Code of Ethics

  1. All members shall conduct their affairs to carry out the aims and objectives of the National Association of Animal Breeders.

  2. The publication of dairy and beef sire genetic evaluations shall include at least the following: (1) Source of evaluation, (2) Date of summary, (3) Evaluation unit (PTA, PA, EPD, BV, etc.), and (4) Reliability factor. Domestic genetic evaluations should be published in their original units as released by the organization responsible for calculating the evaluations. Published evaluations should be the most current information available at the time of publication.

  3. If evaluations from another country are published without conversion, they should be published in their original units as released by the organization responsible for calculating the evaluations (BCA, BV kg, etc.) and properly labeled.

  4. If evaluations are published which result from converting a genetic evaluation from another country, they should: (1) result from the application of the most current official conversion formulas, and (2) be labeled with a suffix of 'c'  (e.g., PTAM(c), PTAT(c), etc.) and include a converted reliability.

  5. The publication of non-return or fertility information will be properly identified as to method of calculation (i.e., Non-return, ERCR, Palpation, etc.), interval after insemination (i.e., 30-60 day, 59 da, 60-90 da, 75 da, etc.), minimum number of services per bull in the data set and source.

  6. No good purpose is accomplished by extravagant claims for the merits of sires or the efficiency of organizations. All members will use truthful statements concerning their own associations and support such statements with adequate proof.

  7. All NAAB members shall conduct their inseminator training programs in accordance with the "Recommended Minimum Standards for Artificial Insemination Training."

  8. It shall be unethical for any member of this organization to interfere by unfounded criticism with techniques and practices developed by another member organization.

  9. Any complaints or questions on the interpretation of this Code shall be submitted to NAAB or authorized committee thereof upon request of NAAB.

  10. If any of the provisions of this Code shall violate any State or Federal Laws, neither NAAB nor any of its members shall be bound thereby or shall be deemed to have agreed thereto.
